INTRODUCTION
The Joondalup Business Centre is the result
of a five year planning initiative. Seed funding for a feasibility
study was secured in 1999 through a grant from the Commonwealth
Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business.
The feasibility study confirmed the need for such a facility.
The North West Metropolitan Region is one the
fastest growing regions within Western Australia and the nation.
As a result there are many commercial opportunities in both
the professional and service industries. The rapid growth also
reflected rising unemployment and a significant youth proportion
of the total population. The feasibility study recognised that
both these indicators could be targeted by stimulating small
business growth.
Building construction costs were largely met
by a grant from The Commonwealth Department of Employment, Workplace
Relations and Small Business. The City of Joondalup made a significant
financial contribution. Edith Cowan University provided the
land and additional funding. The Joondalup Business Association
also made a significant contribution to the establishment of
the Business Centre.
